Order size and order quantities are often issues with most converters, and this section attempts to clarify what we can do and what we cannot do in terms of order sizes and minimum quantities. As always, virtually everything that we do is custom, and there are exceptions to every rule; this is just a guideline to help make things easier. |

Unfortunately, there's no simple answer. We
are a so-called wide-web converter, which means that almost all of the
master rolls that we work with are between 30" and 60" wide. A
narrow-web converter works with master rolls that are typically up to
26" wide. As a result, if you are looking for a film that is 7" wide,
chances are that we'd print the design between 5 and 8 lanes wide. A
narrow-web converter would print the same design in 2 or 3 lanes wide. Narrow-web equipment is typically quick to set up, plate cost is low, and run speeds are slow. This means that smaller quantities are easy to to run. Wide-web converters, on the other hand, have longer set-up times, plate cost is not as low as narrow-web (because plate cost is based on surface area of the plate - larger plates cost more than smaller plates), and run speeds can be very fast. As a result, cost for longer runs are very low. In essence, there's a right tool for every job; You don't want to hammer with a screw-driver, and you don't want to use a screw-driver to drive a nail. Narrow-web converters do an excellent job with small runs, but once the volumes increase, it is hard for them to keep up. By contrast, set-up time is long and costly for wide-web converters, but once the job is set up, speeds are very fast and costs per impression for long runners is very low. As a rule of thumb, our minimums are
around 500lbs of film. This is the size of our typical master roll, and
it is the quantity where we start to become competitive. For laminates,
the quantity is typically slightly larger. Depending on the material
used and the size of your impression, this could be anywhere from 20,000
impressions to several million...

This is simple: time, material and transportation.

We mostly pack on standard wooden pallets, typically 1,500lbs. The film is protected with card-board trays, roll wraps, and stretch wrap. We try to standardize packaging to keep costs as low as possible. However, we can customize most of these parameters to fit your production needs. Just let us know if there's anything we can do to accommodate you. We use several carriers and can expedite shipments, if needed, and even overnight rolls. However, this can become very costly very quickly as film rolls tend to be be heavy.
