New Capital Investments at Constantia-Owned Multifilm Packaging Corp.
ELGIN, IL. (September 27, 2006). In the first step of an investment initiative to upgrade the processes and capabilities at Constantia Multifilm Packaging, Vienna, Austria-based packaging giant Constantia Packaging has added a new solvent-free laminator and turret slitter to the plant.

In order to handle the increased demand for laminated products, the company installed a Nordmeccanica Super Simplex SL laminator in late September.
“Lamination has long been a bottleneck for us,” explains Constantia Multifilm President & CEO Olle Mannertorp. “Our business has recently shifted towards structures that require advanced lamination capabilities, and the Nordmeccanica meets both our speed requirements and provides us with the destruct bonds that our customers need.”
The laminator is also in line with the company’s environmental policy. Explains plant engineer Dave Rohrschneider: “a solvent-free laminator has no exhaust, and is therefore a much more environmentally friendly machine. It’s important to us to offer environmentally sound products, and our equipment and manufacturing process have to live up to that standard too.”
The installation of the Nordmeccanica laminator is the second step in an investment initiative that started earlier in the year with the purchase of a new Deacro turret slitter. The Deacro slitter is capable of speeds up to 1500 ft/min, and with a turret rewind and an automatic roll management system, it is ideal large volume runs.
